Walks from the past few weeks

walksIt’s been a few weeks since I’ve last updated my progress on my “going for a walk at least once a week” improvement. As you can see, I’m still doing it. Though it would be nice to go for more than one walk a week. But now that the weather is improving, I’ll have more opportunity at the weekend to walk into town or go to some other location and have a wander around.

I also have some other news that I’ll be writing another blog post about soon or in the next few days. Till then, enjoy my progress update.

Weeks 9, 10, 11

walksMissed posting for a couple of weeks so these are the last 3 weeks work of walks. As you can see, how far I walk is starting to differ each week. But at least I’m keep up with my “going for a walk at least once a week” thing I set myself. A couple of times I’ve had to really motivate myself just so I didn’t falter.
Now that the weather is improving, I shall have to motivate myself to go out at the weekends too. And try to get a friend to go out one evening a week, like we did last year. But I think that might be difficult now that they are coupled up. Well there’s only one way to find out and that is to send an email round.

Week 8

walkAnother week and another graph. The mileage is going well, just need to get walking more at weekends. With the recent storms seemingly over for the foreseeable future, and providing the weather is good, it’s time to start thinking about going out for walks at the weekend and getting the mileage up a bit more. Although some of my routes near home are still slightly under water at the moment, so may have to try other areas that aren’t affected by water. Time to get the thinking cap on.

Week 7

walksHere is the graph for week 7. I haven’t managed to walk much this week, which is mainly due to the storms that we have been having here in the UK. There were a couple of days where the weather was good for me to venture out during my lunch break, but the rest was rain, rain and more rain. Today the weather has been better, but sadly I’m suffering from a head cold that has meant that I didn’t want to go out. It would’ve been nice to try and use the fresh air to get rid of this cold, but the way that the cold affects my eyes doesn’t make it easy for me to see much of where I’m going. I’m only just able to go on the computer to write this blog, but I will soon be turning it off to go back to bed in the hope that it will pass quickly.

Weeks 5 & 6

walksI forgot to post week 5 graph here, so this week I’m combining week 5 with week 6. Week 5, I only managed to walk once that week, which means I’m still achieving my area for improvement goal. Various factors contributed to me only going for a walk once that week, the main one being the weather. It ain’t much fun going for a walk in the pouring rain, especially when you walk during your lunch hour from work as I don’t have a change of clothes with me. Unlike on the weekend when it’s easier to get out of wet clothes.

Week 6 faired a bit better as I had 3 days where the weather was good for me at lunch time. So that meant I was able to get out when it wasn’t raining. Judging but the weather forecasts lately, I think I am going to have to rethink my route as I tend to walk across some grassy areas. I might try a sightly different route for week 7, hopefully it won’t take me longer than my current walking time. Just hope that it doesn’t make me go over the time allotted for my lunch break, which is an hour. We’ll see on the first opportunity I get to try it out.

Week 4

walkHere is the graph with week 4 and a total of 18.74 miles completed this year. Looks like I’m doing more miles each week, but I think this may change at some point. When it does change, I’m hoping to acheive between 3 and 5 miles a week. That will be a nice extra thing to try and achieve. Still its good to see that so far I’m keeping to my improvement area. Although it is early days yet, but so far so good and I’m pleased with that.

New Years Resolutions

This post is not going to be about any New Year Resolutions I’ve given myself. You see setting goals as these resolution things just doesn’t work for me. To me I find that it just piles on too much pressure to ensure that I don’t break them during the year. Instead I’m changing it to ‘Things to improve’. Things To Improve is a title that sits more comfortably because if there are periods of time, short or long, where I haven’t continued on my improvements for whatever reason then I don’t feel so bad. I’ll just mark them as blips in the process to improving myself. To be honest we all have blips from time to time, it’s part of human nature.

One of my Things to Improve this year is a small goal I’ve set my self where I go for a walk at least once a week. I’ve set it as a small goal for now there will be some weeks where I will only be able to go out for a walk just once during the whole week. These reasons could be, too much work on so that I won’t be able to go out during my lunch break. The weather, lets be honest when it’s raining going for a walk and getting wet doesn’t appeal to me. Or I’m just having one of those weeks where I just wanna curl up with a good book or sit in the garden doing nothing.

Now this walking goal is not going to be one of those goals where I go walking for miles each week. As long as I get out of the house/work for at least 15 minutes and walk around the block or further, is good with me. I’ll be using a tracker on my phone that will record my route and how far I’ve walked. For a number of months I’ve been trying to find a good application for my phone that I’m happy with and I think I’ve found the one that I like. I’m just an app called Endomono, which is a nice one as it uploads the route etc to their website. The website does a cool thing where you can see your stats for the activity you’ve recorded. One of the things that I’ll be doing on a weekly basis is showing the graph that says how many miles I’ve walked this week. Now I’m planning on taking a screenshot of that graph and posting it here as a way of showing you that I am still trying to achieve this ‘Thing to Improve’. So below is the graph taken from the website, which shows that for the first 3 weeks of this year I have been out walking. OK so it doesn’t show how many days that week I have been walking, but at least it does show that I have been walking for the first 3 weeks of this year. By posting this graph weekly will show that I’m still the weekly walks I’ve set out to do. Here it is:

So far I’ve managed to walk more miles each week. This will fluctuate as the weeks progress, but its a good start nonetheless.

Trying

Gonna try and do something with this blog. Many a time I’ve said I’m going to this and that with it, but it’s fallen by the way side. Now I’m not going to promise what kind of blog this is going to be, it’s not exactly been successful in the past, I’m just going to let this evolve naturally and see where it goes.
The journey of this blog will start in the coming days and I hope you with join me in seeing where this takes us.

It’s been a while.

Wish I could say that I’ve been a busy bee, but we both know that isn’t true. I’m still battling my demons, but I’m trying to get through them. One step at a time.

I’m now spending the last night of my holiday sat alone in my hotel room. I’ve been up where I am, firstly to attend a wedding reception of someone in my family, but also to do a bit of family tree stuff and take some pics. This is also the first time that I’ve been on holiday on my own where I’ve had to spend my days on my own and working out what to do each day. In some ways this has been a bit of a trial to see if I can go it alone somewhere. It hasn’t been too bad, but then I’ve only really spent 2 days out of the 5 up here on my own. So I don’t think that you could say I could actually go it alone. May need to try another holiday somewhere in this country where I stay for a week or so with no family nearby. Then we’ll see how it goes me thinks.
Speaking of family, I have a feeling I got fobbed off tonight. Had a text about lunch time to say that they were going to be working late. Then I see a post on facebook which looks like it was posted at home. I’m probably reading to much into it because I don’t actually know where they work and it could be close to home. But if they wanna be like that then so be it. But it’s not the first time I’ve been fobbed off by people. Seems to be a theme to be honest and doesn’t help my self esteem when I’m trying to expand my social circle.

I’m gonna stop my moaning/woe is me thing. Not everyone wants to read that. I do have more to write about, but I think I’ll leave that for another time.

Cats

This is a random blog post, but it’s a thought that often pops into my head. Why do people obsess about cats? I just don’t get the fascination about them. They are hardly interesting pets and all they do is eat, sleep and shit right next to your garden roses.
The other thing that annoys me is why people seem to think it’s ok to feed a cat that doesn’t belong to you. If I owned a cat, it’s my responsibility to feed it, not anyone else’s. Do you really trust the food that other people are giving to your beloved pet? Not sure I do. What if the food wasn’t right for your cat? You’ve got an expensive visit to the local vet on your hands. I don’t understand why it’s acceptable to feed something that doesn’t belong to you or why owners of cats accept other people feeding your cat. I’d like to see you try and get those same people to help towards vets bills. Something tells me they wouldn’t be so willing.
Dogs are better. They are more loyal, fun and another source of exercise. One day I’ll own a dog.
